Welcome to BCreeds.com
My aim is to provide top quality handmade reeds based on the best reed making traditions but including some of my own innovations. I have designed custom tooling made to profile cane for each type of reed. Machine profiling has many advantages over hand scraping. Profiled reed tongues match each other exactly which means they will vibrate at the same frequency and pressure. This makes for a free blowing and vibrant sounding reed. Profile specifications can be adjusted by tiny amounts. Once my tooling is dialed in it will produce the exact same profile each and every time. Hand sanding is done in the final "voicing" process to adjust each reed in relation to the hardness and quality of the cane.

Custom reeds
I specialize in custom made reeds for SSP and NSP.  I can make reeds to almost any specifications for length, width, pitch and strength. Do you have a chanter that is difficult to find good reeds for? Contact me and I'll see what I can do.
Attention Smallpipe makers.
I can work with you to develop the perfect reed for your chanters. Once we have the reeds refined to your specifications I can supply reeds fast and at very competitive prices. This allows you to focus on making bagpipes instead of messing with reeds.

The anatomy of reed cane.
A basic explanation on the structure of reed cane and how this can be used to create reeds with specific characteristics
My Story. I have been playing highland and smallpipes for 15+ years. My reed making venture started from sheer necessity. Living in Scandinavia, isolated from most of the piping world I had a lot of trouble finding a replacement reed for the smallpipe chanter on my favorite bagpipe. I decided to learn to make my own reeds based on the best reed making tradition combined with my own innovations. I slowly but surely became obsessed with reed making. The result is now BCreeds.com.
